Several
years ago, before photography became linked to cell phones, we gave our
granddaughters instamatic cameras as Christmas gifts. Kim and I also gave them
a little talk about the joys of photographing nature – how photography helps
you see and thus appreciate the natural world, and how it helps you cultivate
your artistic eye. We figured this would help them move away from the
television, outside into the woods, or just to their back yard.
They
took to our little talk right away, but like all nature photographers, they put
their own spin on what they were doing. We discovered them seated in front of
the television with their new cameras, taking pictures of the zebras, lions and
giraffes shown on a PBS documentary.
